> church history...![]() Church On The Move, formerly known as The Prayer Mission Church, is located in the city of Detroit The Church has a rich and unique history. It was founded in 1912 and first opened as All Saints Russian Orthodox Cathedral. The congregation was primarily home to many Russian and Ukraine immigrants. The Church building was sold in 1992 to the Prayer Mission, a fundamental Pentecostal ministry under the leadership of the late pastor Margurite Stephens. In June 2000, there was a change in leadership, Dr. Vivian C. West was installed as pastor by Bishop C. Vaughn. The church not only underwent a leadership change, but a name change as well and new mandates from God. The name was officially changed to Church On The Move to reflect its mission and purpose which is to move God’s people forward through preaching and teaching the unadulterated and incorruptible word of God. It is a nondenominational church, but still retains its Pentecostal flavor and several of it’s old Russian icons including murals depicting the arch angel Gabriel telling Mary she will soon conceive a child, and a scene of Mary holding the body of Jesus, the characteristic dome, elegant stained glass windows, and real crystal chandeliers. Church On The Move is affiliated with Soul-winners, Evangelism, and Disciple-makers (SEAD) Interdenominational Fellowship, Presiding Prelate, Bishop Lewis E. Evans, of Soul Harvest Ministries in Highland Park, Michigan. The church is in good standing with local community. The congregation is representative of and reflects the population of people of all race, gender, class, culture and socio economic status. Church On The Move has been given a mandate to make known the manifold (great, mighty, diverse) wisdom of God to the world to meet human needs in the local community by educating the whole person (spiritually, mentally, physically, socially, emotionally, and financially). It is doing this by teaching the whole gospel of Jesus Christ to people including salvation, social justice, physical healing and wholeness in spirit, soul, mind, and body. The purpose of this ministry is to serve the community of believers by nurturing, training, equipping, and empowering people to work together in the unity of the Spirit of God to impact and influence the world for Jesus Christ.
